Double hung windows consist of two
separate window panels, both of which slide up and down. Typically,
the window is opened by sliding the bottom panel upwards.
|
|
|
|
1)
Measure the width inside of the window frame. (Figure
1-1)

|
2) Measure
the depth of the window frame where the posts will be mounted
(inside right and left
sides of window frame).
- If the depth of the window frame measures
less than 3/4 inches, the guard will need to be mounted on the
outside of the window frame (on the window trim or wall). Add at
least 1-1/2 inches to the inside window frame measurement. (The
extra 1-1/2 inches is the width of both side posts)
|
|
3) Once you have
determined the above measurements, you can return back to our
Window Guards page by simply closing this window

|
Cautionary
Note There should be no more than a 4-inch opening
anywhere in the guarded area. This includes the area between the top
bar on the window guard and the bottom of the opened window panel.
